FACIAL SURGERIES
Within facial surgeries, rhinoplasty is the aesthetic operation most demanded by our patients. The nose occupies the central part of the face, gives it harmony and configures the profile of your face.
Rhinoplasty
The nose operation requires a delicate technique and precise aesthetic concepts on the part of your plastic surgeon, as it requires subtlety and an overview of what each part will end up contributing to a harmonic nose in line with the rest of your face.
What does Rhinoplasty consist of?
Rhinoplasty consists of changing the cartilaginous bone skeleton of the nose so that the skin adapts to this new mold and the desired shape is obtained. The incisions are always made inside the nose so that there is no visible external scar.
The nose operation is performed on an outpatient basis. Depending on each case, this can be done under local anesthesia plus sedation, or under general anesthesia. The operation of the nose is done intranasally through an intercartilaginous incision, taking off the nasal dorsum to subsequently act on it.
There is also what is called external or open rhinoplasty, which allows you to see the entire anatomy perfectly. There are no visible scars as the incisions are on the inside of the nose; even in open nose surgery the scar is imperceptible.
In the first diagnostic appointment, your plastic surgeon will give you specific information about the rhinoplasty operation and will explain the most appropriate technique for your expectations and needs.
In the operation, in addition to modifying the shape and/or size of your nose, we can also improve respiratory function when it is hampered by problems with the nasal valves or with the nasal septum (septoplasty). Therefore, in addition to an aesthetic purpose, the functional or respiratory aspect of rhinoplasty can also be essential.
Whether with a closed or an open rhinoplasty, to modify the external appearance of the nose we will have to model the bone and cartilage of the nose (alar, triangular and accessory) with which we will change the shape of the nasal tip, the back , the projection, the height and the proportions between the different parts of the nose.
Postoperative
The nose operation or rhinoplasty is not a painful surgery at all, and allows you to lead a normal life practically from the first day. Nasal plugs are placed in both holes to prevent bleeding and stabilize the nasal septum, these will be removed between 24 hours and the following two days.
In the first 24 hours you may experience swelling, discomfort and a certain headache, which subsides with medication.
The return to normal life will be done after about ten days, avoiding sports, violent exercises or any activity that increases blood pressure for another 20 days.
We must emphasize that the final result will be seen after 6 months, since until then the inflammation will not have finished reducing.
Sometimes it is necessary to put the patient in plaster, in order to maintain the new shape of the nose after a rhinoplasty operation, for seven to ten days. This can cause the patient to lose work or social activity, for purely aesthetic reasons.
